Q. What inspired you to become a teacher?
A. "I was a full-time secondary English/Reading teacher because I love reading and wanted to help those who struggled understand the power of reading to change their lives. I now work as a Para so I can be available for my children to support them with their school work and encourage them at their extracurricular activities."
Q. What is the most rewarding aspect of working at STEM Lab?
A. "The community of STEM Lab is very supportive and everyone is part of the team and has a role to play in our success."
Q. How do you engage with students who might be struggling in or out of the classroom?
A. "Getting to know students as the unique person the are is key to helping them when they struggle."
Q. In your opinion, what are some of the biggest challenges facing the education system today?
A. "Lack of respect for the teaching profession, lack of channeled funding (teacher salaries, equitable access to technology and other resources for all students), book bans and imposed limits on curriculum topics."
Q. How do you foster a positive and inclusive classroom environment?
A. "I try to learn the names of each student in the classes I work in and to be a positive role model of the STEM values."
Q. What is your favorite thing the PTO does for the school and what can we do to better serve the STEM Lab community?
A. "The Kona Ice Truck!"
