A Message From the Board

Summer break is wrapping up and we are headed back to school on Monday August 14th. As we look ahead, our vision is to further expand our outreach and make an even greater impact on the lives of our students. We aim to continue supporting the school in every way possible. None of this would be possible without your selfless contributions, monetarily and/or simply your presence at our events. Your enthusiasm and commitment have been the driving force behind our accomplishments and we encourage all members of the STEM community to actively participate. Your ideas, feedback, and involvement are invaluable, and we firmly believe that together, we can accomplish even greater things this year! Let's GO!

We are actively seeking community sponsorships to help us provide the STEM community an unforgettable year. By becoming a sponsor, you have the opportunity to showcase your business or organization to a wide audience of parents, teachers, and the local community. Depending on your level of sponsorship, your logo and brand could be prominently displayed at our events, on our website, and in various marketing materials.

Support Staff Spotlight
Shelby Haggard - School Psychologist

These are a few of her favorite things:

Color: Blue

Favorite Starbucks Drink: Cold Brew

Snacks: Tea, Chocolate, Chips

Homemade Goodies: ANY!

Place to Eat: Chipotle

Place to treat herself: The City Nail Bar

Little surprises that bring her joy: Food!

Q. What inspired you to become a school Psychologist?

A. "I wanted to become a school psychologist in order to support both teachers and students in our schools. I wanted to be able to provide the support that teachers need in order to teach our students with the highest needs. I also wanted to be able to support students' social/emotional health in order to help them access their education and become responsible citizens."

Q. What is the most rewarding aspect of working at STEM Lab?

A. "The most rewarding aspect of working at STEM Lab is seeing students grow. In my first year, I had the opportunity to see so much growth in my students, and I cannot wait to continue supporting this growth. The fact that we have the potential to see students from kindergarten through 8th grade at STEM Lab is so unique and exciting."

Q. How do you engage with students who might be struggling in or out of the classroom?

A. "Meeting students where they are at and building relationships with them is key to helping those who are struggling. Building a trusting relationship with students allows me to learn more about their interests, likes, dislikes, struggles, and passions, all of which are essential to know in order to build interventions/supports to help them succeed."

Q. In your opinion, what are some of the biggest challenges facing the education system today?

A. "One major challenge facing the education system today is limited funding. Limited funding causes schools to make cuts on things that students need, including mental health services, sports, extracurriculars, para-educator supports, and other student resources. These gaps put more strain on teachers and can contribute to burnout, which is another issue facing our education system today. With so many demands on teachers and limited hours in the day, it is a TOUGH job. Supporting our teachers and encouraging self-care is something we can do to combat teacher burnout."

Q. What is your favorite thing the PTO does for the school?

A. "My favorite thing the PTO does for the school was all of the goodies during Teacher Appreciation Week. The food and goodies gave me the boost I needed to get through the rest of the year, and they truly made me feel appreciated! Being able to buy things for my students through the PTO budget is also absolutely amazing!"

Teachers and Staff! We would love to feature you in an upcoming newsletter. If you are interested please fill out this FORM.

School meals are FREE for all!

Many Colorado school districts, including Adams 12, are offering free school meals to all students this year through a new state program funded with a voter-approved tax measure. Called Healthy School Meals for All, the program is meant to ensure students are getting the nutritional fuel they need to learn.

Even though it is free for all this year, the district is still encouraging families in need to fill out the application for free and reduced lunches. This step ensures that both your family and our school continue to receive the necessary support. Moreover, it can also assist your family in obtaining financial help for various expenses such as school fees, athletic fees, and field trips. Please fill out the application here: https://www.adams12.org/newsroom/news-details/~board/district-news/post/apply-for-free-and-reduced-benefits
