Q. What inspired you to become a school Psychologist?
A. "I wanted to become a school psychologist in order to support both teachers and students in our schools. I wanted to be able to provide the support that teachers need in order to teach our students with the highest needs. I also wanted to be able to support students' social/emotional health in order to help them access their education and become responsible citizens."
Q. What is the most rewarding aspect of working at STEM Lab?
A. "The most rewarding aspect of working at STEM Lab is seeing students grow. In my first year, I had the opportunity to see so much growth in my students, and I cannot wait to continue supporting this growth. The fact that we have the potential to see students from kindergarten through 8th grade at STEM Lab is so unique and exciting."
Q. How do you engage with students who might be struggling in or out of the classroom?
A. "Meeting students where they are at and building relationships with them is key to helping those who are struggling. Building a trusting relationship with students allows me to learn more about their interests, likes, dislikes, struggles, and passions, all of which are essential to know in order to build interventions/supports to help them succeed."
Q. In your opinion, what are some of the biggest challenges facing the education system today?
A. "One major challenge facing the education system today is limited funding. Limited funding causes schools to make cuts on things that students need, including mental health services, sports, extracurriculars, para-educator supports, and other student resources. These gaps put more strain on teachers and can contribute to burnout, which is another issue facing our education system today. With so many demands on teachers and limited hours in the day, it is a TOUGH job. Supporting our teachers and encouraging self-care is something we can do to combat teacher burnout."
Q. What is your favorite thing the PTO does for the school?
A. "My favorite thing the PTO does for the school was all of the goodies during Teacher Appreciation Week. The food and goodies gave me the boost I needed to get through the rest of the year, and they truly made me feel appreciated! Being able to buy things for my students through the PTO budget is also absolutely amazing!"
